DonJoy Tru-Pull Advanced System knee brace is designed to provide excellent
support for chronic knee conditions such as dislocations, subluxation, and
brace, which is available with or without hinges, consistently keeps the patella
(kneecap) in its correct position within the intracondylar groove of the knee
joint, ensuring that it tracks properly. This prevents dislocations and
subluxation, and reduces associated knee pain.
whether or not to choose a hinged brace depends on the level of support your
knee requires. The lightweight but strong aluminum hinges provide additional stability
for both sides of the knee and assist in controlling movement of the patella.
The hinges also control the degree of leg extension, thereby protecting the
knee from hyperextension.
brace is suitable for use in many sports including basketball, wrestling,
snowboarding, golf, and surfing. It is extremely comfortable to wear and users
feel confident that while they indulge in their favorite sports or daily
activities, their kneecaps are being kept secure and stable.
design of the brace incorporates an elastomeric pull device. Essentially, there
are two adjustable pull straps, positioned above and below the kneecap, which
give a good, comfortable, firm fit. The positioning of the straps provides a
strong and consistent pull on the kneecap during extension. This pull maintains
the kneecap in its correct position.
a padded buttress that sits up against the kneecap. This also keeps the patella
properly aligned as the knee extends. Two buttresses of differing thicknesses
are provided with the brace. The user can choose which thickness is more
comfortable. The buttress is adjustable and can be trimmed to maximize contact
with the patella.
anchor near the base of the Tru-Pull Advanced stops rotation of the brace. This
keeps the pull on the patella consistent and therefore prevents lateral
subluxation of the patella.
choose a brace with a popliteal cutout, which is an opening at
the back of the knee. Fabric can sometimes pinch the skin at the back of the
knee when the knee is bent. The cutout can lessen this; it is also cooler to
wear. The cutout does not alter the efficiency of the brace, so it’s a matter
of personal preference. An open popliteal can be more comfortable, but is not
recommended if you suffer from inflammation as any swelling can get pushed to
the back of the knee. A closed popliteal knee brace provides more compression
and is therefore slightly more supportive.
The brace is constructed from Drytex, a
patented Lycra fabric surrounding a nylon core. Drytex is an anti-microbial,
lightweight, more breathable alternative to neoprene. The better airflow means
that the Drytex option is good for warmer climates or people who are allergic
Advanced is suitable for use in water. If submerged in salt water or
chlorinated water it should be rinsed off with tap water and allowed to air
brace by hand using cool water and mild soap. Lay it flat to air dry. Don’t put
it in the washer or dryer.
