Donjoy Female Fource ACL (Off-the-Shelf) Knee Brace
The way that females make cutting and landing movements
places them at greater risk of tearing an ACL. In fact, they are 3-8 times more
susceptible to ACL tears than males.
To combat this, DonJoy designed the DonJoy Female Fource
ACL, a knee brace specifically for females. As well as being made for the
female leg, which increases comfort, the brace limits the length of time the
knee is in an at-risk position, thereby protecting the ACL (and also supporting
The patented FourcePoint hinge system reduces the time that
the knee is near or at full extension (the ‘at risk position’), and prevents
hyperextension, which is when the ACL is normally torn. The brace achieves this
by utilizing a spring mechanism that applies a progressively increasing amount
of resistance during knee extension. Extension can be limited by the use of
stops that are set according to individual requirements. Progressive resistance
engages during the final 25 degrees of extension, and stops knee extension at a
definite end point, usually 10 to 20 degrees in order to prevent ACL damage.
Normal knee action is not affected by the brace.
The brace also features a patented four-point leverage
system that has been clinically proven to increase stability in the knee
ligaments, particularly the ACL. It works by strategically placing cuffs and
straps in four positions on the front and back of the thigh and calf. These
direct stress on the knee backwards onto the tibia, effectively reducing strain
on the knee and providing excellent protection for the ligaments.
The Female Fource ACL, available in seven sizes, is a
low-profile brace, suitable for wearing under clothes. Press fit upper thigh
rivets contribute to the sleek design. It is constructed from aircraft grade,
lightweight aluminum. The entire brace weighs only 18 ounces. A lightweight
brace is critical for comfort, and for preventing stress and fatigue of the
The medial (inner) thigh area of the brace is designed in a
curve to avoid the thigh getting pinched. The medial thigh portion is open so
it is possible to wear a brace on each leg if needed.
As the aluminum is malleable, the brace frame can be bent in
or out for a better fit. The strap tabs swivel, also allowing for a better fit
and suspension of the brace, and the anti-migration calf strap prevents the
brace shifting position.
It comes with supra condyle pads that keep the brace in
position, no matter the level of activity. Additional, thinner condyle pads are
included, which can be substituted if the brace feels a bit tight.
A calf pinch guard is available as an add-on.
The Female Fource ACL comes with a custom graphics sticker
sheet, featuring white hibiscus flowers, which can be attached on the thigh
The brace is suitable for use in water. Rinse with fresh
water after immersion. A Teflon-based dry lubricant (like a bicycle chain
lubricant) will keep the hinge working properly.
The DonJoy Female Fource ACL comes with a one-year warranty
on the frame and hinge.
The DonJoy Female Fource addresses biomechanical factors that have been implicated in the high incidence of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears in females. Females tend to perform cutting and landing maneuvers with their knees and hips in an extended and less protected position.
The Female Fource incorporates DJO's FourcePoint hinge technology, which has been clinically demonstrated to increase knee flexion angles, limiting the time the knee spends in at-risk positions during activity; therefore, providing females the protection they need.
DonJoy's OTS Female Fource is a lightweight, low profile functional knee brace designed specifically for females and is perfect for the active female returning to sport or the general female population returning to activities of daily living where an OTS brace is required.
