DonJoy Deluxe Hinged Knee Brace
The DonJoy Hinged Knee, designed for mild to moderate medial lateral control, is available in both Neoprene and Drytex materials. The Neoprene Hinged Knee Sleeve has a more compressive and warmth capabilities than Drytex. The Drytex material is an alternative to Neoprene and constructed of a unique nylon core and polyester Lycra fabric that allows for improved airflow. This fabric provides compression and support, yet allows for breathability. Ideal for patients who have allergies or irritations to Neoprene or live in warm weather climates.
For moderate stability of ligament, meniscus injuries, sprains, and osteoarthritis
The
DonJoy Deluxe Hinged knee brace is the same product as the DonJoy Hinged knee
brace, but with Drytex fabric. It is a soft brace with rigid uprights, designed to provide moderate
support for the knee.
Specifically,
the Deluxe Hinged brace helps with mild to moderate meniscus injuries, knee
sprains, ligament instabilities, and osteoarthritis. It does not control
tracking of the patella.
It is
not suitable for high impact or collision sports, but is an excellent choice
for hiking and backpacking on rough ground, long distance running, water
sports, and some contact sports.
The
uprights are made from aluminum to protect the knee from impact. Bilateral
hinges provide extra support, and are covered to prevent injury to opponents or
teammates. The condyle pads attached at the brace hinges provide comfortable
soft tissue compression. The brace allows for full range of motion of the knee
but there is an extension stop set at 10 degrees. Other stops can be installed
to limit flexion and extension at various degrees.
There is
a choice of fabrics: the brace is made from either neoprene or Drytex. Although
neoprene is waterproof (and is the fabric used for surfers’ wetsuits), it can
be a bit warm to wear, and some people are allergic to it. Drytex, a patented
Lycra fabric surrounding a nylon core, is an anti-microbial, lightweight, more
breathable alternative to neoprene. The better airflow means that the Drytex
option is good for warmer climates or people who are allergic to neoprene. The
Deluxe Hinged sleeve is only available in Drytex, while you have a choice of
fabric for the wraparound.
The
brace is suitable for use in water. If it is submerged in salt water or
chlorinated water it should be rinsed off afterwards with fresh water and
allowed to air dry.
It is
available as either a sleeve or a wraparound. To put the sleeve on, draw the
brace over the foot and up the leg until it is in the correct position. The
wraparound has Velcro straps that attach at the front of the brace, making it
easier to put on and take off. The Velcro means that the straps are adjustable,
allowing for a better fit than is possible with the sleeve.
You can also
choose whether to have a popliteal cutout, which is an opening in the brace, at
the back of the knee. The cutout can reduce the fabric pinching the skin when
the knee is bent. It is also cooler to wear. The popliteal cutout does not
alter the efficiency of the brace, so it’s purely a personal preference. An
open popliteal can be very comfortable, but is not recommended if you suffer
from inflammation as any swelling can get pushed to the back of the knee.
The
Deluxe Hinged brace is 13” long. To ensure that you choose the brace that will
give you the best fit, take careful measurements of the circumference of your
leg in three places (the center of your knee, 6” above the knee, and 6” below
the knee) and be aware that the sizing runs a bit small.
Designed for mild to moderate medial lateral stability.
Measuring information: Measurements taken 6" above mid-patella, knee joint line, and 6" below mid-patella circumferences.
