The Hinged Air DonJoy is constructed with Drytex, a neoprene alternative material that allows for improved air flow and is hypoallergenic.
The
DonJoy Drytex Hinged Air knee brace provides joint pain relief caused by various
knee conditions, particularly patellofemoral misalignment. Designed to enhance
mobility, provide stability, and increase flexibility, the brace helps relieve
pain associated with conditions such as chondromalacia, patella tendonitis, mild
medial or lateral knee instabilities, MCL or LCL knee sprains, and post-operative
pain from meniscectomies (the removal of the meniscus).
Thebrace is made from Drytex, a patented Lycra fabric
surrounding a nylon core. Drytex is an anti-microbial, breathable,
lightweight, and hypoallergenic fabric that wicks away moisture and is an
excellent alternative to neoprene (which is used for surfers’ wetsuits). The
better airflow means that the Playmaker is good for use in warm climates or for
people who are allergic to neoprene.
The
wraparound brace has Velcro straps that can be adjusted for a more customized
fit. The straps also allow for adjustable correction of the kneecap’s tilt, glide, and
rotation. There is a half wrap on the brace at the back of the thigh, which
makes putting on the brace easier.
There
are uprights and hinges incorporated in the brace. These help to suspend and
stabilize the brace, preventing migration and increasing support. The soft, polycentric hinges
conform to the knee joint’s natural movement so knee action is unimpeded. You can fully flex
your knee while wearing the brace, but if you do need to limit flexion there are stops that can be
installed to prevent the knee from bending more than 0, 10, 20, 30, or 40
degrees. The brace comes fitted with a flexion stop set at 10 degrees.
There
are also extension stops that can be set at 45, 60, 75, or 90 degrees to limit
knee extension.
Inflatable
buttresses are provided so that, depending on your requirements, you can
increase the level of support for the medial or lateral side of the patella, or
completely around the kneecap.
The
brace features a popliteal cutout, which is an opening in the brace, at the
back of the knee. The cutout can help prevent the Drytex material pinching the
skin at the back of the knee when the knee is bent. The cutout also makes the
brace cooler to wear.
The
DonJoy Drytex Hinged Air knee brace is 13” long and is available in six sizes. To ensure the best fit, take measurements of the
circumference of your leg 6” above the knee, at the center of your knee, and 6”
below the knee.
If the
brace is used in salt water or chlorinated water it should be rinsed off with
fresh water. Wash it by hand, or in the machine on a delicate cycle, using cold
water and a mild laundry detergent. Don’t put it in the dryer, but lay it flat
to air-dry. A Teflon-based lubricant (bicycle lubricant) is good for the hinges
if the brace is often in water.
